The position of the Slender Hose Tree will depend on the udder of the cow that is being milked. The worker should attempt to keep the milk hose level with the claw when the cow has evenly milking quarters. Cows with high udders may require the unit to be flipped over or spun over and the higher branches used.
Side to Side Alignment
Adjust the Slender Hose Tree to the right or left of the cow to provide more tension on either side of the udder. In photo above, the right rear teat is beginning to deflate. You can provide more tension to the left quarter by moving the support to the right. This provides a clean milk out.
Forward and Back Hose Alignment
Adjust the hose in the Slender Hose Tree forward to put more tension on the back teats or backwards to put more tension on the front teats.
Lower Udder
Lower udder cows may require the branch on the base of the Slender Hose Tree be used. Do not lay the hose on the curb. The branch in the base will provide proper hose tension that the curb will not. Unused branches can hold the pulsation hose off of the floor and out from under the cow’s feet.
Proper Milking Procedures
Start with proper milking procedures. The procedures listed here are suggested. You should always consult your veterinarian about the best practices for your herd.
Suggested best practices.
- Dry wipe any debris from the teats of the cow
- Dip or spray each teat.
- Massage each teat
- Strip each teat, check for flecks of milk that indicate infection.
- Dip or spray each teat again
- Wait 60 to 90 seconds for let down
- Dry each teat with a clean towel, one per cow. Towel should be moved in a twisting motion from the top of the teat pulling downward.
- Be sure to clean the tip of each teat.
- Attach milking unit
- Position the hose support. See examples on the following Pages.
- After the milking unit is detached apply a good post dip. Be sure to completely cover the teat with the dip.
